Young cross country ski racers from as far away as Pennsylvania and as young as 2 ½ years old participated Saturday afternoon in the Junior VASA. Junior skiers ages 7 and under skied the 1km course. Skiers 8-15 skied the longer and more challenging (but very skiable and user friendly) 2km trail.
As all of the Junior VASA participants cross the finish line they received a North American VASA Championship Medal. The Junior VASA is all about participation. The event is not timed. All finishers are winners. The entry has always been a super value at only $5.00 per skier. VASA goody bag included.
“Junior Vasa skiers will be the Vasa skiers of the future,” states Pete LaPlaca, Executive Director of the North American Vasa. “Hopefully they’ll remember the fun they had on skis in this event, and continue the sport for their entire lives. The smiles on these kid’s faces are our reward.”
The North American VASA is recognized for its meticulous trail grooming and excellent ski conditions. The Jr. VASA receives the same quality attention. Trail grooming for both Jr. VASA courses were again performed by Timber Ridge Resort and Nordic Center’s grooming experts.
The date for the 2012 North American Junior VASA is Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.

🎿Lift tickets are the biggest expense and there’s no way to get around it! However, if you do your homework, there are places where kids ski for free/cheap!
For a family of six this is pretty great for a full week, we skied 4 days, and hiked, skated on the lake and did some sledding on our off days!

We have the most amazing ski community in this state! I officially skied my last runs of the season today at caberfaepeaks with this incredible group of women! They are fun, interesting, tough, compassionate, but most of all they are bunch of kick-ass skiers and boarders! So grateful to be a part of the ski.boardwomenofmi
caberfaepeaks today. Morning rides were excellent. Needed all my moves to make it down Bullet. Just a liiiiiiittle thin on coverage. Mushy mush after 1:00. Rocking a sweet face tan now 😎
🚨⤵️Here are some ways we save skiing with a family of six:
🎿Gear swap. I am always looking for used ski gear and store it until it fits.
🛠️ Learned how to do my own maintenance, adjust bindings, wax/sharpen skis, it’s really easy and saves a ton!
📆 Ski during the week! Most resorts offer discounted rates on weekdays!
🤑 Look for resorts with “kids ski free” or have cheap kids lift tickets! Two of our faves in Northern Michigan, nubsnob (free 8 & under) and shantycreekresort ($6 8 & under).
🏠 Stay off site. Yes it’s far more convenient to have the ski in/out capability, but you can save a ton by renting vrbo off site!
🥘 Bring your own food! We love making taco meat or chili in the crockpot and having a warm lunch! We still buy a few things but not everything!

Pine Knob is OPEN today, Tuesday March 5 from 3pm to 9pm. The Red Bull park event is going on NOW (see photo) until 7pm and our Adult Race League Awards are in The Off the Wall Lounge starting at 7pm. Ten runs open for skiing and snowboarding.
We're moving snow around the hill to open today, March 5, from 3pm to 9pm for skiing and snowboarding. The Adult Race League will be holding their awards ceremony in the bar tonight at 7pm (no racing tonight). Food and drink available.
Out in the terrain park, Red Bull is hosting their Slide-in Tour (lift ticket/season pass required) 2pm until 7pm (prior to lifts running at 3pm, participants may walk to the event).
