Business Canoe Relays

Grayling Recreation Authority Presents
The Business Canoe Relays

Dear Potential Race Team Manager,

Have you ever wanted to yell HUP? Here is your opportunity! It is time for you to consider putting a team in the 2017 Business Relays. This will give you an opportunity to showcase your canoeing technique or publicly embarrass yourself and your co-workers, either way is fun.

We have made some exciting changes! We have a shorter course, with all participants paddling a short distance downstream and upstream. Also, in addition to 1st place teams getting trophies we will also present trophies to the winning businesses.

Two members of your team will be put in a canoe and forced to paddle downstream, go around a buoy then paddle a short distance upstream where the other two members of your team do the same course. Your team will be competing for the fastest time in your class.

We have a class for everyone (men’s, women’s, and mixed) and plan on limiting the entries to fifty teams. The entry fee is just $20.00 per team; all equipment is provided. This year’s scheduled dates and times are:

Penrod’s on Thursday July 27th, 2017 4:20 p.m. to???

As always, we try to accommodate you with a starting time that fits your schedule. Each leg of the race takes only 15 minutes so exceptional physical fitness IS NOT a requirement. Only two members of your team need be from your organization so you can trick your friends and or family into paddling. Remember this is a fun event so do not try to sneak any ringers into your line-up (see Rule #6).

We hope you come down to compete or just join in the fun. Please fill out the enclosed entry form and forward as soon as possible, race day is near.

Once again Grayling Recreation Authority is this year’s coordinating organization for the event. If you need any information, contact Hanson Hills at 348-9266.

Music on the Mountain Concert - Jill Jack

Music on the Mountain Concert - Jill Jack

Aug 3, 7:00pm - Aug 3, 9:00pm

The Homestead
1 Woodridge Rd
Glen Arbor, MI  49636 Map

Jill Jack’s magical connection to her audience is the result of her generous artistry. By combining her gifts as a conceptual visionary with a warm gathering of musical influences, Jill touches that secret heart of ours with her melodies and lyrics. In her hometown of Detroit, Jill needs no further explanation. She’s been lauded in equal measure to her talents: Since 1997 she’s won over 37 Detroit Music Awards. in every conceivable category that applies to a singer-songwriter. Much of this provincial success is due to her charming stage presence and emotive songwriting. It’s simply called connecting, and it’s the bounty of a true songwriter open to all of life: her own defeats, victories, hopes dashed, dreams fulfilled, her muse, her loneliness, her misplaced love and her romantic successes.

You get all of Jill Jack in a performance -- her blend of folk and rock traditions, her open humor, her fine band. Jill harbors little of her process from her audience -- each performance is about opening a window and shining a light into her songwriting, leading inevitably to the intense relationship with her fans. Her career is founded on folk’s best idea -- that there’s a shared knowing between artist and audience, a conversation that flows both ways during a show. Plus she’s a strong woman who’s won over the toughest town in a man’s world -- she’s a bandleader, the principal songwriter in a large group bearing her own name, an employer and automatic arbiter of musician’s issues.

The concert begins at 7pm. Transportation via chair lift or six-passenger golf cart begins at 6pm. Cash bar and snacks are available for purchase. Coolers are not permitted.
In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in Mountain Flowers Lodge.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
