If you’re looking for a beautiful fall getaway from Chicago, this Northern Michigan road trip is worth adding to your list! 🍁
🏔️ 1. Boyne Mountain Start your trip at Boyne Mountain in Boyne Falls. Take the scenic chairlift up the mountain and enjoy the beautiful fall views. SkyBridge Michigan is also a popular mountaintop attraction.
🌊 2. Petoskey Head to charming Petoskey and explore the waterfront, downtown area, and Lake Michigan views. Don’t forget to look for the famous Petoskey Stones along the shoreline!
🍁 3. Tunnel of Trees – M-119 One of the highlights of the trip! This scenic route runs about 20 miles from Harbor Springs toward Cross Village, with a beautiful canopy of trees and occasional views of Lake Michigan.
🏖️ 4. Lake Michigan Beach Stop along the shoreline for peaceful lake views, photos, and a beautiful sunset. October gives the beach a completely different feeling—cool, quiet, and surrounded by fall colors.
🍂 Is October a good time? YES! October is one of the BEST times to visit. The Petoskey area typically sees peak fall colors around the 2nd–3rd weeks of October, although weather can change the timing. October temperatures are usually cool, with average highs around 56°F and lows around 40°F.

Great institutions are built by healthy teams that enjoy working together while staying laser-focused on the mission.
I thank God every day for my Executive Team. I try to tell them often how much I appreciate them and how proud I am of the work we are doing together. Our annual Executive Team Retreat gives me the opportunity to do more than tell them. It gives me the opportunity to show them.
This year, we spent a few days together at Boyne Mountain. This time together is important to me. It gives us an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day demands of the college, spend meaningful time together, reflect on where we have been, celebrate what we have accomplished, and think intentionally about where we are going next.
I am incredibly proud of Riki Jensen, Lisa Lund, Francisco Ramirez, Theresa Rowland, and Kevin Wagenmaker, and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside each of them. They are talented leaders, great teammates, and even better people. 💚💛
