Walking across the world's longest timber-towered suspension bridge, 1,200 feet across the top of Boyne Mountain!
Made a stop at SkyBridge Michigan on my way Up North. You ride the chairlift all the way to the summit, then walk the bridge with incredible views of the Northern Michigan hills in every direction. Amazing scenery, and a romantic spot for a date or a proposal at the top of the mountain.
Next stop: Grand Traverse Resort for the Michigan Realtors Convention, where I'll be watching my good friend Al Block become our new President. He saved me a front-row seat as one of his VIP guests. So proud of you, Al!

We celebrated at Boyne Mountain and made a stop at Lake Michigan. It was cold and windy, with the waves kicking up. She stayed back trying not to get soaked, and I couldn't stop smiling. After 35 years of love, faith, and walking through life together, I'd marry her all over again.

A farmer once sold a Michigan hillside for one dollar because he thought anybody who wanted to build a ski hill on it was a fool. 🎿
In 1947 a Studebaker dealer named Everett Kircher drove north from Rochester looking for a hill to ski on. He found one outside Boyne Falls — nothing but hardwood and snow — and bought it for a single dollar.
Then he did something nobody expected. Out in Sun Valley, Idaho, they were replacing the two chairlifts they'd put up in 1936, the first chairlifts ever built anywhere. Kircher bought one for twenty-five hundred dollars, had it taken apart, and hauled it two thousand miles back to Michigan on railcars.
Boyne Mountain opened Christmas Day, 1948. When Michigan winters didn't cooperate, Kircher went after the weather itself, and Boyne became one of the first places on earth to make its own snow.
That one-dollar hill is now Boyne Resorts — Big Sky in Montana, Sunday River and Sugarloaf in Maine, one of the biggest ski companies in North America.
Not bad for a hill a farmer thought was worthless. 💙

Most people think SkyBridge Michigan is a summer attraction. It isn't.
The bridge is open year-round at Boyne Mountain. In winter, you cross it with snow on the slats below your feet, the valley filled with white pines coated in fresh powder, and the wind cutting through the timber towers in a way you don't get in July.
The chairlift ride up to the bridge is part of the experience. The timber towers look like cathedral architecture against a winter sky.
Bring layers. Bring a camera.
