Mackinac Island Cross Country Skiing
The Mackinac Island Ski club grooms trails on the east and north side of the Island in Mackinac Island State Park.
The cross country ski trails wind through the pristine woods of Mackinac Island State Park and allow the winter visitor to see all of the natural and historical landmarks of the island.
You can follow the ski trails to the interior of the island and take in the vistas from the highest point on the island at Fort Holmes. Or ski through the woods to Arch Rock and enjoy the view of Lake Huron from the bluffs on the eastern side of the island.

What US locale is on your vacation bucket list?
Visiting Mackinac Island on Michigan’s UP is a goal of mine so the setting of Make Nice by Ryan Effgen caught my attention. I hoped to enjoy this character-driven dysfunctional family story, but it never completely captured my attention.
Siblings Viv, Pete, and Corey are each dealing with personal crises when their elderly father summons them to one last week on the island that holds many childhood memories. Intended to be a tribute to their recently-deceased mother, their lack of relationships with each other creates plenty of awkward, and over-the-top, moments. Each character’s life was so different from mine that it was difficult to relate to or care about them.

Six years later, we finally made it back to Mackinac Island…only this time, we brought a tiny first-time visitor with us. 🥹⛴️🤍
Nathan had been talking about riding the BIG BOAT for weeks, so taking the ferry to Mackinac was basically an attraction all on its own. 😂
We arrived just in time for chicken pot pie at one of our longtime favorites, Mary’s Bistro, followed by an evening walk down Main Street to our home for the next four days, Mission Point Resort.
And THIS is why I love staying overnight on Mackinac Island. Once the last ferries leave, everything gets quiet. No cars. Horses clip-clopping down the street. Bikes passing by. Just the prettiest little island that somehow still feels frozen in time. 🐴✨
Mission Point welcomed us with the sweetest setup in our newly renovated family suite — including Nathan’s own room, a crib already waiting for him, fresh fruit and, most importantly, warm chocolate chip cookies + milk. 🍪
We couldn’t wait to show our little guy one of our favorite places in Michigan for the very first time. 🥹
And this was only Day 1. 🤍
