The Mackinac Island Ski club grooms trails on the east and north side of the Island in Mackinac Island State Park.
The cross country ski trails wind through the pristine woods of Mackinac Island State Park and allow the winter visitor to see all of the natural and historical landmarks of the island.
You can follow the ski trails to the interior of the island and take in the vistas from the highest point on the island at Fort Holmes. Or ski through the woods to Arch Rock and enjoy the view of Lake Huron from the bluffs on the eastern side of the island.
Wowser! Mackinac Island!! A place I have wanted to visit since I was a young girl and it did not disappoint!! To get there, you must take a ferry or private boat. Only about 4.3 square miles, this magical place has always and continues to ban motor vehicles. Bicycles and horse drawn carriages are the mode of transportation. (Even taxis and Amazon packages are via horse carriages) making the full time pooper scoopers very busy😂) Arch Rock is a limestone arch 146 feet above the lake, very beautiful and popular photo op. And oh my gosh… the fudge!! Just walking down the street you can smell the deliciousness of chocolate!!! Also the summer residence for the Governor of Michigan (what a perk🤩). But my LOVE was Grand Hotel . Built in 1887, this GORGEOUS hotel has the longest front porch in the world (660 feet) lined with rocking chairs that overlook Lake Huron. It has 397 guest rooms, all decorated differently. Many dignitaries and presidents have stayed at The Grand. The movie Somewhere In Time was filmed there (Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour). Our favorite was the Cupola Bar with a panoramic view. 🥂 #mackinacisland #grandhotel #longestfrontporchintheworld #fudge #horsedrawncarriage #archrock #cupolabar #lakehuron #motorhomelife #motorhomeadventures #motorhomejourneys #fulltimetraveler #tiffinmotorhomes #phaeton #retirement #seetheusa #travelusa #lets_go_lescos...

Magical dusk light at the Mackinac Island Marina. Found this in an unedited file from two years ago, it was a Thursday night, just like tonight, and it was music in the park by mackinacartscouncil. I can still feel the warmth of that evening and hear the band (Friends With the Weather) playing… #mackinacisland #marina #boats #dusk #evening #musicinthepark #michigan #summer #allthefeels #outdoorconcert #memories #happyplace...

There is a cool breeze off the water tonight, with that heavy scent that only come from the Big Lake. And even though I live in a Lakeshore town so that's not a unusual thing, it makes me long for Summer evenings on the Island.
Not Prince Edward Island, although I did just re-read Anne of Green Gables.
But Mackinac Island, sitting green and lovely in the strait between Michigan's Upper and Lower peninsulas.
Cars are prohibited, which makes it a quiet retreat, however many tourists may be prowling about among the fudge shops and carriage ride stands.
My youngest daughter loves it, because the lack of constant noise eases her sensory overload issues. The older one hates it, because she's deprived of the stimulation of her beloved internet. Two Autistic kids, two very different responses to the slow down required by the Island.
Perhaps I ought to just check to see if there is the possibility for one little trip before school starts again. I'm a Northern Michigan girl in my bones, and I miss the pines, the cliffs, and the water.
