Midwest Telefest

Hey Midwest Telemark Skiers!

Our summer backcountry brush clearing event is less than 2 weeks away at the Porcupine Mountains Ski Area and we need your help.

Saturday August 15 10am - 5pm

Bring good boots, work clothes and gloves, water and food/snacks. If you are skilled with a chainsaw or brush cutter and want to bring your equipment and tools, please do. Otherwise we will need plenty of folks to just help us move large downed trees after we cut them into smaller pieces.

Camping is free by Porkies Ski Lodge both Friday and Saturday nights.
bathrooms will be available for use and to get water.

Saturday night starting at 6pm we will have a dinner party at lodge. Bill the ski hill manager is donating burgers and brats to our crew! Bring your own side dish and drinks.

There is also a new mountain bike trail down the ski hill, so brink bikes if you wanna try it!

Lets be safe and social distance while working and hanging out, masks are recommended when working and visiting closer together.

See official event for this on the Midwest Telefest FB page and respond if your going so we can know about how many folks to expect.

We will be working on one glade between runs on west side of hill that will be officially the Midwest Telefest backcountry glade!

Thanks folks!

Question about the camping at the ski hill. Is that available Friday and Saturday night? Also do you think there will be some clearing done on Sunday? Planning on some backpacking after the work is done and trying to make BC reservations.

Wondering if this is still happening and if there is someone to contact once you arrive? I've never been up there before and can see myself wandering aimlessly once arrivng. Thanks!

Naming rights is cool. Does the gogebic college operate the hill now? Lonnie still??

Do you love skiing the trees and wooded backcountry at the Porcupine Mountains Ski Area for Midwest Telefest?

We are planning a summer weekend to get volunteers to help clear a gladed area between the ski runs at the Porkies that will be labeled Midwest Telefest....
That’s right, our own sponsored backcountry area!

When: August 22/23 weekend

What: help us clear downed trees and small saplings for better backcountry skiing.

We will provide some chainsaws, brush cutters, hand tools and safety equipment.

You don’t have to be skilled with chainsaws or tools. We also need strong folks to help move wood debris.

We will have free camping and an informal party Saturday night with a cookout and beverages!

Let us know if you can make it, put it on your schedule and look for official event invite soon!
