Hanson Hills has a rich history of providing quality recreational opportunities for all types of user groups all beginning in 1929 when it became the first ski area in Michigan. Over the years we have been recognized as; Grayling Winter Sports Park, Bear Mountain and now Hanson Hills Recreation Area. In the late 50’s to early 70’s the building we currently recognize as our “LODGE” building was constructed as a warming area for winter sports enthusiasts. The theme of “using what you have” as donated material and labor were used to construct multiple additions to the lodge, transforming it from a simple warming area into functioning lodge with restrooms, offices, and a concessions area. In most recent years we have been progressive on adding an ADA compliant restroom, along with making necessary repairs and maintenance to an aging building, while keeping that nostalgic feel of the ski lodge that so many of us remember as generation after generation of youth have passed through. Time is catching up to this remarkable building, and we are hoping to preserve what we have, so that we can continue to provide the many programs, events, and recreational opportunities to Crawford County residents and Visitors. Our lodge needs the following repairs to help bring us out of a deteriorating stage, Siding, Windows/Doors, and Roof are the main areas of concern. We are kindly asking for community support to help accomplish our project goals. Total project cost is $295,766 and we are asking for community support in form of a 1 year “one and done” Millage to expedite these repairs. How can you help to preserve the Lodge? Join the Hanson Hills Lodge Preservation Committee. Help us spread the word of how Hanson Hills (Grayling Recreation Authority) has impacted you, your kids, your grandchildren, share the memories, help us inform the community of what our preservation project is all about. To join, call 989-348-9266. Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday September 13th 6:30pm @ Hanson Hills.
Project Scope: • Replacement of Lodge Siding • Replacement of Lodge Windows • Replacement of Lodge Roof
